Throttling by Delicious

Occasionally you may notice that you are having problems saving your del.icio.us bookmarks or that your bookmarks are not updating. If this happens, you may be throttled by del.icio.us. del.icio.us automatically throttles accounts when they are too active. Too active means DeliciousSafari is making too many requests to del.icio.us. This normally occurs when you do complete updates within a few minutes of each other. A complete update will occur every time you log-in to del.icio.us from DeliciousSafari. If you are performing a sequence of log-in and log-outs then you may experience this issue. To see if you are being throttled, open Console from the Utilities folder under Applications. Select All Messages from the log list (if the log list isn't visible, press the Show Log List toolbar button).

If you are being throttled, you need to wait (normally between 30 minutes and 1 hour) to become un-throttled.

What Causes del.icio.us to Throttle DeliciousSafari?

  1. You log-in and log-out of DeliciousSafari in quick succession
  2. You make changes to your del.icio.us bookmarks from the del.icio.us website and restart Safari several times in a row
  3. You're importing bookmarks into del.icio.us from DeliciousSafari (note: if you see this happen, please contact me)
