Beta Testing DeliciousSafari 1.7

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

If you’d like to help beta test the next release of DeliciousSafari (version 1.7) please contact me so I can add you to the list. A lot of the code has been reworked since 1.6 as the result of your feedback and I need testers to help ensure this release fixes many of the problems in 1.6 without introducing new ones. I want to begin beta testing 1.7 by June 8.

You’ll also get to preview some of the new features added in 1.7, such as favicon support, faster Safari startup, fast bookmark posting, and a toolbar button for posting to del.icio.us.

Several people have let me know that the DeliciousSafari menu doesn’t show up in Safari after installation. If you are experiencing this problem, please sign up for beta testing. This is an issue I’m trying to resolve in 1.7.

Again, if you’re interested in helping please contact me.

DeliciousSafari now has some documentation.

DeliciousSafari 1.6 – Tag Suggestions, Importer, & Enhanced Favorites

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Version 1.6 of DeliciousSafari is available. It includes tag suggestions, a Safari to del.icio.us importer, and an enhanced favorite tags menu.

Changes

  • Tag suggestions when adding bookmarks
  • Safari to del.icio.us bookmark importer
  • Combine tags to narrow results in favorite tags menu
  • Changed keyboard shortcut to Control+D
  • Fixed bug that prevented some URLs from being saved

Notes

You can change the keyboard shortcut for adding bookmarks (i.e. Control+D) via System Preferences. To do so:

  1. Open up System Preferences
  2. Select Keyboard & Mouse
  3. Select the Keyboard Shortcuts tab
  4. Press the + button
  5. Select Safari as the Application
  6. Enter Add del.icio.us Bookmark… as the Menu Title.
  7. Enter the keyboard shortcut of your choice. NOTE: some key combinations may conflict with other key combinations in the system, so you may need to experiment to find one you can use.

If for some reason you want to revert to 1.5 after installing 1.6 then you must use the Uninstall DeliciousSafari tool before trying to install 1.5. Otherwise the bookmarks will be stored in a format that only 1.6 can understand.

DeliciousSafari 1.5

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Version 1.5 of DeliciousSafari is available. When saving a bookmark that you have already saved, DeliciousSafari now populates the fields with your exising values. This provides basic bookmark editing. Simply click on the bookmark and then re-add it. When you do, it will be filled with the values of your last post.

Changes

  • Displays current bookmark values when posting a bookmark you already have
  • Added WebKit compatibility

Notes

  • Due to a limitation with the del.icio.us API, the value of the do not share field is not remembered when re-posting a bookmark.
  • If you are upgrading, you should log out of DeliciousSafari and then log back in again to refresh all bookmarks after you have installed 1.5. You only need to do this once. This will ensure the notes field is displayed when editing a bookmark.

DeliciousSafari 1.4

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Version 1.4 of DeliciousSafari is now available. This version fixes a major problem introduced in Version 1.3 that caused tags to not be saved when running on Tiger.

I apologize to everyone who lost data as a result of Version 1.3. It was completely my fault and I could have easily caught the problem with proper testing. I will try not to repeat this mistake.

Again, you only need this update if you are running Tiger. If you are running Leopard, everything should be working fine.

Changes

  • Tags are now correctly set on del.icio.us when running on Tiger.
  • The notes field now correctly wraps text.

DeliciousSafari 1.3

Sunday, December 2nd, 2007

Version 1.3 of DeliciousSafari is now available. Tag completion, the most requested feature, is in there. Also, a major performance bug when dealing with large sets of bookmarks is fixed.

Changes

  • Tag completion when saving bookmarks (this is the most requested feature following the initial release).
  • Big performance gain creating the del.icio.us menu. This was causing Safari to load slowly and a spinning beach ball when posting new bookmarks. Everything should be lightning fast now. On my machine, the menu creation routine went from a 2.3 second operation to a 0.02 second operation. I repeat – DeliciousSafari should have NO noticeable impact on Safari performance.
  • Bookmarks are now sorted by name within each tag.
  • Expanded compatibility for auto generated bookmark titles that contain HTML character entities. This means math symbols, greek letters, and other characters will show up as expected, rather than as some weird HTML code like ù.

DeliciousSafari 1.2 – Initial Public Release

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Version 1.2 of DeliciousSafari was released November 26, 2007. After about two months of living on, I decided it was ready for the real world. This release has the following new features:

  • A list of all your del.icio.us tags.
  • Select your favorite del.icio.us tags for quick and easy access
  • Auto-populates URL and web-site title for new posts.
  • Recently bookmarked items
  • Search popular del.icio.us tags related to your tags
  • Links to the del.icio.us website

CORRECTION: I had previously posted this release as 1.3. I’ve since corrected it. This release was 1.2.
