DeliciousSafari 1.6 - Tag Suggestions, Importer, & Enhanced Favorites
Version 1.6 of DeliciousSafari is available. It includes tag suggestions, a Safari to del.icio.us importer, and an enhanced favorite tags menu.
Changes
- Tag suggestions when adding bookmarks
- Safari to del.icio.us bookmark importer
- Combine tags to narrow results in favorite tags menu
- Changed keyboard shortcut to Control+D
- Fixed bug that prevented some URLs from being saved
Notes
You can change the keyboard shortcut for adding bookmarks (i.e. Control+D) via System Preferences. To do so:
- Open up System Preferences
- Select Keyboard & Mouse
- Select the Keyboard Shortcuts tab
- Press the + button
- Select Safari as the Application
- Enter Add del.icio.us Bookmark… as the Menu Title.
- Enter the keyboard shortcut of your choice. NOTE: some key combinations may conflict with other key combinations in the system, so you may need to experiment to find one you can use.
If for some reason you want to revert to 1.5 after installing 1.6 then you must use the Uninstall DeliciousSafari tool before trying to install 1.5. Otherwise the bookmarks will be stored in a format that only 1.6 can understand.

I’ve had a report of del.icio.us throttling Safari to del.icio.us imports (NOTE: I’m talking about mass importing using the new import feature in 1.6, not the saving of a single bookmark). I contacted del.icio.us and they confirmed that this may happen. The symptom is the import will just stop in the middle of uploading the Safari bookmarks. I’m looking into alternative ways of doing this for a future release.
If you experience problems with this feature (or any other features, of course) please let me know.

Hello, just I installed DeliciousSafari and it seems to me brilliant, is something that it was looking for long ago.
I have only one question: What happens if I never register the application? It lets work after certain time, or some of their functions are limited?
Thanks a lot, and congratulations!

At this point, there are no limited functions nor is there any time limit on how long you may use it. Registering simply removes the annoyance reminder that pops up every once in a while when you try to access a bookmark.

What an elegant solution! QuickSilver, Pukka and AppleScript are nice, but I am so grateful for you sparing me having to tweak code! You should be the official del.icio.us-Safari integrated solution.

Jacob,
Try following the instructions here.
If that doesn’t work let me know.

Hi Doug,
One small suggestion: I use two different delicious-accounts. One is for the bookmarks I need at work, one is for my personal bookmarks. Using your (nonetheless fantastic) software, I have to re-enter my login information every time I switch between these two accounts. It would be very comfortable if the usernames appeared in a list and would auto-login using my mac’s keychain on click.
Thanks for coding DeliciousSafari. If I use it often (and I think I will), I’ll certainly register.
Regards,
Alfred

Thanks for the suggestion Alfred.

This would be absolutely brilliant if I could add favorite tags to the Bookmarks Bar. If you could make it do that I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I agree Eric. I used to use that feature all the time in the firefox extension. I’ll do some investigating to see how this can be accomplished. However, this will not be in the next version (1.7).

Hi - great product but I have stumbled across a problem. I wish to use this at work which runs through a proxy server. Inside this environment I am unable to log into my delicious account from the app. There appears to be an issue with Safari logging into https sites from behind a proxy. Can you think of any way around this?
June 12th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Chris, thanks for letting me know about the issue.
DeliciousSafari does communicate with del.icio.us via an https connection. However, I’d need to know what your proxy server is doing in order to figure out a workaround. I’ll talk to you off blog about this.

I cannot bookmark anything. when I try to add to delicious bookmark, the drop window comes up, i can add tags but then when I post, it sits there forever with the wheel spinning till i hit cancel.

Jason, this is a known problem in version 1.6 that should be fixed when 1.7 comes out. For now, the workaround is to log out of DeliciousSafari and log in again.
